Nerve

The immensely sympathetic main protagonist, a current new idea and the beautifully colored camera surprised me and turned Nerve into a pleasant experience. The finale is, true, a little barren and the most thrilling scene was the motorcycle ride. However, watching till the end was not as much of a problem as it might seem after seeing the teaser. I won’t waste your time, Nerve is fine. In terms of Hollywood silliness, it’s not above the average, but it is when it comes to tension and fun. Stripped to the bone, I’d say that the core concept is quite smart and interesting; that some details are problematic when you look deeper into it, that’s another thing. I’d wager that the people who’ve complained about the script would rate better a film with the same script if the style was different and the characters were more serious. To me, that’s like paying attention only to the glossy cover. The posers cringe :D I’m actually sorry to have missed Nerve in the cinemas. Emma Roberts is lovely and she was quite some chemistry with that lad. 7/10 (14/10/2016)

This is one of those films where I don't understand why it's so terribly underrated. After all, how else should a thriller look these days? It's got incredible pacing, more suspense than ten good horror movies combined, a likable main character and a handsome lead, so what more could you ask for? I’ve cooled off a bit, but it took a lot for me not to bump Nerve into my top ten list the second I got out of the theater. I’m sure I still won't be able to hold back after the next viewing because it's awesome! (20/01/2017)

Teenagers deserve their movies, and Nerve does that well, however much its focus on the current state of social interaction makes it topical for about four minutes. Still, it does an excellent job visually of looking at the world through the screen, especially with the neon lights nonsensically strewn about the set, the accentuation of color, the frequent up shots, or the overall conception of big-city youth as an extravagant fashion show. The real world is thus loosely intertwined with the virtual one, reflecting the concept of seeing reality through a colored image, where I can always choose what reality will look like. The soc-transition itself predictably gets brutally out of hand at the end and the film turns into total idiocy, but up to that point it's quite enjoyable, constantly stirring the pot and, most importantly, visually captivating. A pleasantly paced film that keeps going from start to finish. Currently, it's not such an original topic, but the film has good characters and great drive. It carries the film throughout and doesn't stop until it's over. Sure, it could have turned out differently, it could have been grittier, but even so, it's not bad. (21/10/2016)
