Plots(1)

The internationally produced The Lacemaker (La Dentelliere) stars Isabelle Huppert as Pomme, a meek and mild French beautician whose life takes a fateful turn during a vacation to Normandy. Here Huppert becomes the lover of middle-class literature-student Francois (Yves Beneyton). The relationship sours when Francois takes her home to meet his parents, thanks in no small part to their differing social backgrounds. (official distributor synopsis)

English A strange drama that takes it upon itself to tell an awfully human story. It reeks of French poeticism which I personally like much more when it’s got legendary French noir actors instead of two chicks that don’t know what to do with their lives and so they fall in love with just about everybody and in the end, everybody loses. English I confess that it was the film Elle that showed me how interesting of an actress Isabelle Huppert is. The Lacemaker showed me again how great she was back when she was around twenty-four years old. Confident, though seemingly unremarkable, the performance is mature and clearly stands out above her fellow acting colleagues. ()
