Awaiting his return in 1945, she is informed of his death and must endure and navigate the post-war years alone. Fassbinder has a very specific style that makes him quite recognizable. The detachment is evident here until the last scene, which is a bit of a surprise, but at the same time an inevitable consequence. The whole story has relatively good and interesting characters, but they can be distant to the viewer. But Fassbinder kept a firm grip on the film.
