A fictional portrait of women's lives in the male-dominated society of modern day Iran. The film begins with the birth of a child and the disappointment that the newborn is not a boy. It then continues through a single day, following a group of women who have broken some of the strict laws applied to them, and paying tribute to the strength and courage with which they endure the inequalities of their society.
