Orizont

The chilling Romanian drama follows a married couple's life full of compromises as they search happiness deep in Romanian mountains. The man fights for the land with local gangsters as well as the police, which has unleashed a futile battle against illegal logging. The oppressing, tense atmosphere was created thanks to a cameraman of the Romanian New Wave, Oleg Mutu (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Beyond the Hills), who lets the characters get lost in the never-ending landscape, thus emphasising their moral dilemma and illusory choices. The musical score corresponds with the imagery, with nerve-grating strings which build a constant tension and expectation of looming danger. (Febiofest)
