The heroine is Golden Swallow (Cheng Pei-pei). She's been dispatched by her powerful father to rescue her brother who's been taken hostage by bandits. The kung-fu master is Fan Da-pei; he may look like a drunken beggar but he's one of the best fighters around. Trouble is, the only man who can beat him is helping the bandits. (88 Films)

What Ang Lee excelled at with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon wasn't something entirely new, but rather a rediscovery and refinement to visual perfection of what King Hu introduced back in the 1960s. An excellent action spectacle with surprisingly great moments and very good fight scenes, even for their time. For action movie enthusiasts, it's a beautiful demonstration that it was possible even 50 years ago.
