Irradiated Food

Just what is the irradiation of foodstuffs? This method was originally developed by the US military which, during the Korean War in the 1950s, needed to conserve food and prevent it from being infected by parasites. Soon after, it was the turn of astronauts' food to be irradiated, before it became common practice for all of our daily dishes. Today, food is irradiated from Brazil to China via Europe.
