Minami Kamakura High School Girls Cycling Club

This show is just a version 2.0 of Long Riders! The idea behind it is the same, the main female protagonist is a similar klutz in the beginning, and her character development is very (and really very!) similar. Moreover, there are only a few characters (the teacher, the headmaster), because as the name suggests, this is not about starting a team for a cycling endurance race like in Long Riders!; this is about creating a school cycling club in a much more conventional way. The animation is again picturesque - it has to be because cycling is also about enjoying the countryside. The soundtrack is also very good and pleasing to my ear. I could do without Sandy's Japanese version of English. I understand that it is nice to have an international student on the team; however, her Japanese form of English and Japanese with an English accent are two things that I cannot stand listening to. Next, it is obvious that the purpose of this anime series is to make people aware of the beauty of Kamakura city and also to encourage audiences to take up cycling as well (and they get some good advice at the end as a bonus). So, as with Long Riders!, I think this is of a higher standard than usual, although I found Long Riders! just a bit more entertaining 6/10. (06/01/2017)
