Adapted from Les Standiford's novel of the same name, the film follows Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) as he attempts to get his career back on track with the release of his new book 'A Christmas Carol' in 1843. Having been rejected by his publishers following the failure of his previous work, Dickens sets about writing his new festive story in a hectic six-week period, combining real-life experiences with his vivid imagination to create a Christmas tale which could stand the test of time and become a family favourite for years to come. A nice film about how Christmas originated and who was behind it, or at least a film that tries to tell us that Charles Dickens greatly changed the perception of Christmas with his "A Christmas Carol" and contributed to the idea that Christmas is primarily seen as a holiday of peace and tranquility, but also of love and friendship. Enjoyable performances by the actors. ()
