Japanese anime which follows soldier Yoji Itami (voice of Junichi Suwabe) as he is sent to investigate a mysterious new world. When a band of warriors and monsters emerge from a portal and launch an attack on Tokyo, the Japanese Self Defence Force sends troops to repel the assault. Gate (2015)
Combining the military and fantasy adventure genres in one show is quite interesting. It also has a bit of politics and some pretty interesting subject matter. The main male protagonist is quite easy to watch, and of the other characters, I think Rory Mercury is probably the best. However, the rest of Itami's "harem" also has its charms. I did not find any significant problem with the soundtrack or animation, and I quite liked the dragon, for example. This show was very pleasant to watch even though it was very one-sided. As Mi Nü-Chai writes so brilliantly in their review on FilmBooster, it is all a "very cute Japanese wet dream about their greatness and power". I still liked this Japanese military fairy tale a lot, and I would love to watch the third season with the sub-heading "Zolzal's Revenge", 8/10. ()
