A hypnotic and compelling video meditation, THE DARKNESS OF DAY utilizes a unique approach to a subject usually presented in a more clinical fashion. The haunting documentary combines neglected films with a soundtrack of poetry, journal entries, moving memoir readings and delicate music by composer Erik Ian Walker. The rare 16mm stock footage is accompanied by poignant excerpts from the diary of a depressed man, as well as a voiceover offering an historical perspective on the phenomenon of suicide. By pairing unusual found imagery with real stories, Rosenblatt creates a rich, multilayered documentary that explores themes of personal truth, grief and loss. (Home Box Office)
