Plots(1)

It is the mid-1970s. In Toruń there is an artistic circle gathered around the Od Nowa student club. Young people are trying out various forms of artistic activity. Theatres and music groups are being created; visual artists and performers can be seen around the city. In this artistic melting pot, a couple of friends form a band called Res Publica, later known as Republika. This is the beginning of a film recounting the first period of Republika’s activity, which ended with its break-up in 1986. A number of interesting, little-known music and film records have been used in the picture. The audience will have the opportunity to listen to fragments of songs and see unpublished photographs of the band, and we will hear some thought-provoking interpretations of selected pieces by Republika. What they will also see in this story of friendship and the rise of a cultural phenomenon is the historical context of the creative turmoil that existed around the Od Nowa student club. Members of Republika and Res Publica appear in the film, as well as their friends and representatives of the music community. (Camerimage)
