From the Migrant Workers to the Stars

The life story of an ordinary man, Tianyou Zhao, is set against the opening-up of the Chinese economy in the aftermath of the Cultural Revolution. Reforms quickly imposed from above were not well understood by the country’s farmers, nor were they always grasped by officials who expected instant success.
