Gaspar Dias is an art expert specialized in the work of Emilio Vega, a painter who disappeared 50 years ago. Amid a wave of fakes, new works attributed to the painter appear requiring a certificate of authenticity. Gaspar works in the gallery of Angelina who is experiencing serious problems with her son Humberto. Fascinated by the painter, and charged with writing his biography, Gaspar's greatest inspiration is swimming in the sea off Copacabana, in the same sea that one day took the life of the impulsive painter, according to the scarce information available. The sea is the one element that links Gaspar and Vega. The unexpected visit of Inácio Cabrera, inquiring about the authenticity of a painting attributed to Vega and who he claims was his friend during his youth, shakes Gaspar's long-held convictions. Cabrera, like Vega, is a Galician immigrant. The possibility of finally finding someone who would have known Vega forces the expert to question everything about the painter.
