Felix is forced to retire early. When his wife, Anne, is promoted at her job and his daughter, Grace, moves in with her boyfriend. Felix feels lonely and bored by retirement, so he decides to try on the augmented reality glasses he received as a farewell gift. What he discovers is a new, exciting world, wherein exists Auggie, his AR companion. Auggie is very understanding of Felix's needs and emotions. Surprised, and touched, Felix begins to fall in love with Auggie, while also questioning his choices. A futuristic scenario depicted beautifully, a complex dilemma tackled artfully, and a lead protagonist played brilliantly by Richard Kind create a concoction that makes us think about where we are headed as a society and what it takes to achieve happiness.
