Henry V is one of Shakespeare's most compelling historical plays. Early in the play, Henry sets out to press his claim to the Crown of France. His small expedition encounters vastly superior French forces at Agincourt, and there Henry delivers his famous exhortation to the soldiers. His army victorious, the King visits the French Court where he meets and marries Catherine of Valois, thereby establishing the beginning of a promising alliance with France. Laurence Olivier is a great actor, but here, at times, I simply didn't believe in him. It's as if he acted more with his voice than with his whole body. Perhaps that was intentional for the entire concept of the film, where you are really watching a theatrical play, which is also emphasized by the great opening intro. The miniatures are awesome. Still, I believe Shakespeare is best suited for the theater. ()
