English The most interesting thing about this movie is the interior design of the house and the views from it, which must be wonderfully diverse with the changing seasons. Watching the lead actress swallow things that aren't meant to be swallowed is amusing in its bizarreness. And it also raises one’s curiosity as to how far it will go and what it will bring to the lightweight story. After the sloppy absolution, in which her character is supposed to take on a new dimension and the film should be brought to a meaningful conclusion, the swallowing itself however remains the film’s only attraction. English An average French psychological drama that is not very rewarding for the audience. The idea is interesting, but nothing interesting actually happens in the film. The whole thing moves at a slower pace, there is no twist or violence. Too light and soft for my taste. Story***, Action>No, Humor>No, Violence>No, Entertainment**, Music**, Visuals***, Atmosphere***, Suspense>No. 5/10. ()

English A young woman called Hunter seems to have everything she could ever wish for - a successful husband from a wealthy family, a child on the way, the modernist house of a millionaire, and in fact she can have just about anything she asks for. The problem is that she is still deeply unhappy and feels completely trapped by her environment, smothering her with domestic life. Then Hunter finds something she enjoys, thanks to which she can finally feel in control of her life, and this new hobby is deeply unpleasant and dangerous. Swallow is a sensitively made psychological drama, a probe into the tormented mind of a timorous woman and her descent into an abnormal addiction. This is nicely underscored by Haley Bennett's quiet but eloquent performance. [Sitges 2019] ()

English A psychological drama about a young pregnant housewife whose daily activities consist of cooking, cleaning, playing mobile games and a persistent effort to make her husband, who hardly notices, happy. The film is a portrait of a woman drowned in a distressing relationship with an oppressive and manipulative partner and his family, moreover in an environment where she feels incompetent, useless and inferior, and where she cannot do anything on her own to experience satisfaction from her own success. She thus begins to swallow various objects, first small ones, but later quite large and dangerous ones. The intimate film, based on consistently elaborated characters and the performance of Haley Bennett, with a perfectly hurt expression on her face, serves as a brilliant study of the origin of mental disorders and also functions as a social critique in this regard. In the last third, however, the film deviates a little from this concept and begins to look for the roots of the main character's problems elsewhere, which is a bit of a shame, as it reduces the intensity of the final catharsis and comes off as a missed opportunity. English Swallow is an American-French production that definitely does not live up to your expectations, either because, based on the title, you were expecting a bukake orgy or because you read the synopsis and thought it might be hardcore and give you the chills. Nothing like that is going on here, so the movie is really superficial and the only original thing about it is the basic concept. ()
