The Remains - After the Odyssey

Each shipwrecked boat carrying refugees in the Mediterranean brings with it hundreds of nameless bodies. The Greek authorities vainly try to establish their identities, but don't have nearly enough manpower. In some cases, the relatives of the victims will help identify the bodies, but most of the remains end up in anonymous graves. Farzat is one of those seeking his family. The bodies of his loved ones remain sunk at the bottom of the sea. Fighting European bureaucracy and indifference, Farzat hopes to retrieve the wreck to give his loved ones a dignified funeral. A modern variation on Sophocles' Antigone, the impossibility of giving loved ones a proper burial is a little discussed aspect of migration. (One World)
