English Lords of the Deep is a low-budget clone of Cameron's The Abyss which was produced in the same year. Producer Roger Corman (it is not a coincidence that he was cast in a supporting role as a corporate villain) wanted to make money on the wave of the popularity of underwater thrillers and had this movie made, whose plot happens to be very similar to Cameron's blockbuster, which hit the screens only two months later. The alien race is represented by cute stingray-like creatures, but the design of the creatures, along with the movie’s environmentalist message, is probably the only thing this leech of a movie can be praised for. It's otherwise a movie that acts like a sleeping pill. ()
