In 2005, Yehoshua Elitzur fled after being convicted of shooting a Palestinian taxi driver to death. Five years later the killer is still missing, but nobody in Israel appears to be working the case anymore. Journalist Shay Fogelman makes it a personal mission to find the wanted man. The result is an investigative documentary that runs until 2018. It took eight years for Fogelman to bring the story to a conclusion. Chasing Yehoshua piles discovery upon discovery, and this is precisely what gives the film its narrative tension. Fogelman bites into his research like a pit bull, flies around the world to put the pieces of the jigsaw together, and more than once uses dubious strategies to extract information. After all, extreme situations call for extreme measures. He’s motivated not only by sympathy for the grieving relatives, but also by suspicions about the government’s handling of the affair, which gives his ironclad investigation a sharp political edge.
