After a mystery fire at his factory, businessman Sir Rueben Astwell decides to file the details of his newly discovered compound at home. Astwell's ambitions to cash in on the possible war with Germany are thwarted when he is bludgeoned to death in his study. Despite failed attempts to hypnotise Poirot, Miss Lemon's new skill helps to solve this baffling case of murder and revenge - as well as helping Hastings to achieve a hole-in-one on the golf course.
