1,200 kilometres of snowy landscape to be covered in 12 days. These are the conditions for the Finnmarksløpet sled dog race and Czech husky breeder Jana Henychová is set to participate again. In summer, Jana organises children’s dog camps for children to earn enough to enable her to move 1,500 kilometres north, from the Jizera Mountains to wintery Sweden. There, with her four-legged teammates, she trains for three months, often in temperatures far below zero, to prepare for an even greater challenge: finishing a harsh long-distance race that is becoming increasingly professional year by year, setting a high bar for amateurs like Jana. Can Jana keep up with the others in this demanding male-dominated sport? Although shots of the captivating Northern landscape prevail, the film focuses mainly on the protagonist and her lifestyle. Outspoken Jana doesn’t hesitate to use robust language, making her comments genuine – whether they relate to what is happening around her or reveal her view of life, which is now inseparably linked to a barking dog pack. English I like movies with dogs, and since I was quite curious about the behind the scenes of dog sled racing, I went to the cinema to see Doggy Love without hesitation. At first glance, the documentary impresses with its amateurishly grounded execution, which is both its strength and a bit of a weakness. I have to admit that after watching it I felt somewhat enriched with information regarding the subject of dog sledding and everything related to it, so in this respect the documentary mostly met my expectations. However, in the first half I was somewhat annoyed by the overly amateurish concept and dialogue of the "actors", which thankfully changed in the second half. The dreaded Finnmarksløpet race is definitely a great challenge and Jana deserves admiration for her determination and her furry companions for their perseverance and loyalty. Better three stars! ()

English Some of the comments here are over the top, and musher Jana Henychová would surely have some spicy remarks about them. I understand her perfectly, whether it's about dogsled racing or way of life. I wish I had her perseverance, tenacity, and determination. I would certainly head far north to fulfill my dreams as well, but I definitely wouldn't plan to participate in the brutally demanding Finnmarksløpet dogsled race, so hats off to the courage to take on something like that. In the documentary, Jana doesn't pretend to be anything she's not; she's simply herself, whether anyone likes it or not. I would just like to see more images from another unfinished race in 2019. However, I understand that nobody wants to dissect a failure. (70%) ()
