Imagine a story about a musical visionary in the early 90’s L.A. Imagine his name was Uku. Imagine his mother was the Soviet Union’s biggest jazz diva. Imagine they had escaped from the KGB as refugees to Sweden. Imagine they had gone to America to recapture fame. Imagine they returned to the East as the Bloc collapsed. Imagine the disappointment. Imagine Uku finally grew up and became a businessman. Imagine he had a huge house and a sports car. Imagine he found the love of his life. Imagine he was diagnosed with ALS. Imagine he dedicated himself to his music once again. And imagine in a twist of fate, his work was discovered by cult U.S. label P.P.U. Records. Imagine Uku is known from Japan to Mexico. Imagine this is a documentary. And imagine Uku kept a detailed archive: home videos from L.A. and Post-Soviet Estonia, TV performances, family photos, polaroids, whimsical 8mm reels. Imagine we recreated the parts that were missing on these same formats. Imagine it’s as funky as his music. (Estonian Film Institute)
