A film about Cuban cowboys in the Cauto river zone. It brings out their professionalism, something very important to them, and their attitude to death. Other subjects of the film are friendship between the men, their love of adventure, and their moral obligations. In the beginning of the film we see a cowboy on horseback spurring on a zebu bull, one of the most dangerous and wildest bovine animals. Next, we see a herd of zebus and a group of cowboys preparing for a trip at the break of day. This journey through swamps, across bridges and plains clearly shows the dangers of this profession. In the second part of the film we get a close look at the work itself. We see how the 'cebúas', as the ranchers call them, are trained. The milking of the cows is an activity that requires great strength. Finally, the leisure activities are dealt with, like the rodeo. The treatment of the subject of this film gradually develops from general to personal. The cowboys' psychology is discussed, their feelings and words of pride, their vanity, solidarity, and rivalry. The film ends with an epilogue in which one of them reveals his deepest feelings. This scene shows that his life is determined by his ambition to be professional. The same goes for all of the cowboys. The true pursuer of the cowboy is his passion for his job and for and venture. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
