Four years after free elections were finally held in South Africa, after many years of white rule, two Danish boys and their parents arrive in Cape Town. The father of the nine-year-old Hjalmar and his younger brother Simon has to work in South Africa for one year. In the film, we see how both kids try to find a niche in their new homeland. When the two boys find a friend, things really start getting good. They do not care at all that their friend is black, although many Africans think differently. From Hjalmar’s perspective, we are introduced to the daily lives of children in South Africa, in a society where the ingrained patterns of apartheid have not yet fade (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
