Because his father has found a new job in Ireland, six-year-old Hjalmar has to go and live there for a year with his little brother and his parents. In the form of a video diary Hjalmar tells about his attempts to make himself familiar with his new surroundings, to learn a new language and to make new friends in this country of fog and rain. Initially the school rituals do not mean much to him, but like the mist is rising at the beginning of a new spring and the landscape reveals itself, the fog is rising for Hjalmar and he makes up the lost ground. Then the time has come to say goodbye. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
