From Barbie to Babe

Danish director Louise Detlefsen developed the first-boyfriend theme in a documentary that follows the assertive teenager Laura in all her intimate moments: confessing to a bosom friend that she is interested in a guy; at home behind a sowing machine during a conversation with her mother, loitering blasé in bed with two friends, meanwhile waiting for the rescuing SMS message from the boy. Because these days communication by SMS is indispensable for starting and maintaining a relationship. Laura also frankly shows the messages to the camera, like she tells a lot with candour – as do her friends. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
