Plots(1)

After a car crash that he was involved in nine years ago, 28-year-old Martin is no longer able to talk or move. He needs constant care and the only people he sees are his caregivers and his parents, who are trying to make his life more bearable by creating a new social network for him. "But we aren't even close to that," his father admits. "A few years ago, Martin said he wanted to die. But at least that means he is mentally still with us. He is aware of his condition." Martin can communicate using a computer he operates with his left thumb. He has a picture of Jamaica and a woman in the sea on his computer screen. We see him playing cards with his parents: his mother points to a card, and Martin nods if he wants to play it. There is little hope of improvement in his condition, but perhaps there's another way of giving his life purpose: a social worker who lectures on the perils of drunk driving wants to use him as an example, to discourage others.
