Stationer Cyril Putička diligently works his small shop. Alone he has successfully raised two sons, today civil engineers, and a daughter, Konstantina. His children persuade him to go to Prague, where he will be able to enjoy a much deserved retirement in a modernly furnished apartment. Because Konstantina would like to marry the son of a banker, her father eventually agrees. But the children already have their own lives and the active Putička is extremely bored. Therefore he finds a position as an assistant in a stationary shop belonging to the young widow Jarmila Valentová. Through his know-how he helps improve her business. His sons, who have in vain impeded him from an "undignified" profession, part with him on bitter terms. After a while Putička and Jarmila get married and set up several branch companies. After five years Putička's children, who in the meantime have foundered in business and marriage, come to him in contrition. Their father and Jarmila accept them kindly and they look after their new future. (official distributor synopsis)

English Maybe it's just me before the age of thirty, or something, but I can't help it, movies with Vlasta Burian are simply great. This is just another proof. His humor is kind this time, just like the kind character he plays. It's still mostly about him, despite not being as aggressive or eccentric. A nice film about people being good. ()
