A steel-nerved skipper (Hayden) trains Navy Carrier Pilots during the Second World War while battling the kind commander of another group new to the carrier. The decision to employ actual newsreel footage is a wise one, as its effective usage greatly enhances and adds realism to the picture. (official distributor synopsis)

It's not exactly an excellent war movie, but when it comes to aerial combat, it's not filmed badly at all, and even after such a long time, the film is still captivating. Moreover, good actors are selected here, whom you can quite believe as soldiers. However, in the end, you may not even remember the plot, but rather the aerial scenes. ()
