Sam Craig and Tess Harding could be a match made in heaven. Co-workers at a New York daily newspaper, he's an attractive, stable sportswriter and she's a glamorous international news correspondent. They've been an item for a while but these two over-achievers can't stop working long enough to spend five quiet minutes together. When they finally do, Tess and Sam decide to tie the knot. Throughout, I kept thinking that the acting performances were simply outstanding, and Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn had perfect chemistry, as they demonstrated multiple times. But then I realized that it's precisely those acting performances that stand out in an otherwise not very engaging story that doesn't manage to captivate you on its own.
