Plots(1)

A popular-scientific film or ‘a short industrial report’ about the making of the gramophone record in the Esta factory. The director Milan Raym captures in detail the phases of creating the shellac disc, the ancestor of today’s vinyl, in this Protectorate film. It follows the journey of Suk‘s symphony Asrael played by the Czech Philharmonic, conducted by Rafael Kubelík, from engraving the polished vax with sapphire needle, over chemical treatment, manufacturing the matrix and pressing, to the final recording medium, in the homes of listeners.
