Kripan's Cause

Alassane is a young man from Burkina Faso living in Kripan (the Basque Country in Spain). One day, he gets a call from his brother Ali to tell him that his parents and parents-in -law have decided to “circumcise” his 6.year.old daughter, Bintou. The cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place in a week's time. Alassane i s utterly opposed to the rite, which he considers to be barbarous. However, he needs only stay another 6 months in Spain to be automatically eligible for a residence permit. If he goes home now, however, he won’t be able to come back and he will be throwing away the dream wich he has fought so hard. (Itxaso Espinal)
