Alike (2015)
In Alike, naive and playful childhood clashes with sober adulthood, and this short film tries to emphasize in a subtle but likeable way that sometimes it's nice to get out of the grey rut and give life a different shade. Honest, concise and sweetly presented!
Hollywood (2020) (series)
If it wasn't for Tarantino's last year's film, this miniseries could have been called Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, because it's essentially a fairytale version of the (somewhat alternatively conceived) cradle of cinema, and therefore should be taken with a grain of salt. It's not surprising that the creators of Glee are behind the script, as the two projects are similar in many ways – well, except for the rating. Regardless of gender, skin colour or sexual orientation, you should always follow your dream and not be discouraged by obstacles and negative influences. On the one hand, Hollywood is very naive, at times overly positive and even sunny, but on the other hand, you can feel the criticism of a world that, despite the constant spotlight, hides a dark hatred towards people who are simply "different". Among the cast, I would like to highlight especially Jim Parsons, whose ambiguous character was indeed a real challenge, and it is also worth mentioning the uncompromising Patti LuPone and the timid Jake Picking. Dreamland is waiting for you! P.S. I would have been more comfortable with Octavia Spencer as Hattie McDaniel.
Fox and the Whale (2016)
Fox and the Whale captivates mainly with its fascinating visuals, in which the most disturbing element is the psedo-cubist appearance of the fox. Quite possibly it was meant to be a kind of breaking out of the plot and distancing itself from the other animals – who knows – but I found it distracting. The story itself, despite its poetic nature and the theme of the final quest, unfortunately didn't appeal to me that much.
First Comes Love (2018)
A sweet and funny film about first childhood love with all the "adult" problems that inherently come with it. Short but to the point!
Don't Croak (2019)
A story from the life of a frog who really had a crappy day. Quite suspenseful, slightly scary and a bit disturbing. The plight of an animal fit for both the dissection room and the plate.
Dead Friends (2017)
Dead Friends offers a blackly humorous story about a dog and its owner, but unfortunately it is neither scary nor funny enough. It’s main attraction is its unusual premise, which could perhaps have benefited from a slightly longer running time and a richer plot.
Oh Sheep! (2012)
Oh Sheep! is definitely not for younger audiences. I appreciate the interestingly conceived animation and the completely unpredictable plot, which is so incredibly bizarre that it kind of trips the film up. P.S. Apparently, the Germans have always had a penchant for building walls and barbed wire fences.
Geoff (2017)
Geoff could be viewed as a sweet and simply told Heinz bean commercial, made all the more compelling because it is inspired by life.
