Fighter (2007)

English A decent film about a Muslim girl who wants to train kung fu, but has a hard time in life. The final fight is decently filmed thanks to impressive slow motion and we get a nice feel for the moves. Otherwise, it’s more of a sports drama that I didn't find all that exceptional from other similarly themed films. 65%.

Resurrección (2015)

English I didn't like it very much. Too long, slow, not attractive enough and not engaging enough for me. There are some interesting atmospheric passages, but they didn't tell me anything in the end. These historical talky horror movies with religious themes where nothing happens properly don't say anything to me. 50%

A Pain in the Ass (2008)

English Another superb French comedy from the director of Shut Up!, a gem of cinema. It's a mystery to me why this film isn't as popular, as the premise is very similar to Shut Up! One hotel, a connected room, and in it an assassin and a chatty suicidal man – this duo pulled the whole film together. Lots of funny and comical situations, and decently suspenseful at times. Good film. 80%.

Think Like a Man (2012)

English A very enjoyable comedy with a great theme. Women start using the advice of a popular book to uncover men's secrets and start exploiting it with their partners. Occasionally funny until I cried (Kevin Hart is great again), and although the cast is predominantly darker skinned it doesn't hurt the film at all on the contrary (all of the women are alluring and attractive). The first hour is 5*, the second hour, where the guys retaliate, is slightly less funny. Still a great comedy. 80%

The Whole Nine Yards (2000)

English I caught up with this older piece and it wasn't bad. It’s a bit of a wacky idea with a wonderful Bruce Willis, at a time when he could still act and was one of the top. I was surprised by the presence of beautiful women and the prettiest one even shows up naked, for which I'll even throw in that extra star. 70%.

Wolf Warrior 2 (2017)

English The most financially successful action film of the last few years, the 870m is absolutely fascinating on a 30m budget and hats off to Jacky Wu who directed, wrote the script and starred, and is for me one of the biggest and most charismatic dudes on the action scene. The first part was a decent action B-movie in an attractive setting and Scott Adkins was the attraction, the second part has bigger ambitions and I'm super excited about it. It's a pumped up 90s testosterone action flick where they don't take their foot off the gas, with action following action, something I really missed (Korea has been making action movies lately in the style of let's put in two short fights and one chase, the rest will be a two hour drama, but China clearly doesn't give a shit). Plus, the film has an attractive theme of African revolutionaries supposedly allied with the Chinese, but Frank Grillo goes by his own rules and starts mercilessly executing everyone (Grillo pretty much played the best bad guy of the year and has one of the most powerful roles of his career). And then of course there's Jacky Wu, a retired soldier (Wolf Warrior) who is servin 3 years for murder, but decides to serve his country on his own and goes absolutely alone throughout the organization, and you can tell he directed it himself because action-wise there is absolutely everything that should be in any action movie. Jacky Wu is on a rampage with an M4, a knife, a crossbow and of course with his fists and it's a treat to see the guy in action. There are of course jeep and motorbike chases, one amazing underwater fight in the middle of the ocean (something I've never seen in my life and had to walk out and take a breathe), one big shootout in the city where there's no shortage of severed arms and legs (the R-rating is really tough). There's plenty of action and it's very varied. Grillo's cronies in the form of a steroid thug or a ruthless blonde are also great. I wasn't that impressed with the tank finale, but the anticipated final fight between Jacky and Grillo was solid (though nothing groundbreaking), but Grillo surprised with his stamina. The only downside for me is the sometimes weaker CGI during the explosions and there is some overkill (which pessimists, introverts will not get over and will shake their heads). I simply enjoyed it very much. The post-credits scene beckons for a third part, and given the earnings, I expect big things. 90%

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

English I loved Marvel a couple of years ago, but lately I've gotten tired of it and am becoming allergic to infantile, colorful CGI mess for elementary school kids. After Doctor Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor isn't much different and it's basically the same old same old with just different heroes. I can praise the opening action sequence and the final very brief bridge carnage accompanied by Led Zeppelin, which was perfect, but the rest went over my head. I didn't laugh even once, there is a lack of jokes and the humour consists more of scenes where someone falls on the ground or breaks something – I guess I'm too old for this – plus there are a lot of annoying characters. Loki got on my nerves, Karl Urban was completely useless, Jeff Goldblum gave the worst performance of his career, Hela lacked space and I didn't even enjoy the character of Thor himself. The action is mostly okay, but there wasn't enough of it to keep me sufficiently entertained. I couldn't even avoid the deaf passages, so for me one of the weakest, most confusing and most infantile Marvel movie. A mix of Star Wars and Power Rangers. I hope Avengers gets darker, otherwise I can't take it anymore. 60%

Jigsaw (2017)

English Jigsaw is back, and it's once again a solid, brutal, superbly shot crime ride that thrills like a porn actress' thong for the entire 90 minutes. Hearing the great theme song again after seven years gives me goosebumps just from nostalgia alone, and as a huge Saw fan I really enjoyed the whole thing. While I didn't find the traps as inventive and brutal this time around as in previous installments, it's still great to watch and it's clear that imagination and innovation are still par for the course. The return of Tobin Bell is perfect, the new faces of the detectives and the pathologists are also interesting, and the most satisfying part, as always, is the twist within a twist ending, which is again very unpredictable, shocking and breathtaking. I feared it wouldn't come, but in the final seconds Jigsaw has once again gifted the most brutal gore scene of the year, which I couldn't have done without. A great return for me and I firmly believe the series will continue as new possibilities open up. The only downside is that Jigsaw doesn't answer the questions from the previous episode, but there may not have been enough time for that. Satisfaction.80%

Delivery Man (2013)

English The original plot, on which the whole film is based and performed by Vince Vaughn, is a very enjoyable and positive experience. I laughed only three times, but it is entertaining enough. More of a nice touching story than a lough-out-loud. 75%

(500) Days of Summer (2009)

English I watched this film more out of curiosity due to its popularity, but I honestly didn't see anything special about it at all. It is hardly funny, not intelligent or entertaining enough to grab your attention. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is likable, but Zooey Deschanel was an ugly bitch whom I found very unlikeable, I didn't really root for their strange relationship. It didn't sit well with me. A run-of-the-mill unremarkable romantic drama like any other. 55%
