Zašlapané projekty (2008) (series)

English This documentary captures sometimes truly incomprehensible mistakes and errors made by the previous regime, especially its governing nomenclature. However, the form they chose cannot be given more than one star. Impartiality means nothing to the creators, half of all information is based on the subjective evaluation of people directly affected by the decisions of that time (and thus their objectivity can be questioned). The nature of this series implies that the authors selectively choose only those projects that were squandered, but almost completely fail to mention other similar ones that made it into production/distribution, etc., and were successful. Simply put, it is a work created ad hoc, with minimal factual and technical added value. The only positive aspect is that at least the work of our ancestors, who surely deserve some recognition, has returned to the light of day.

Fast Food Nation (2006)

English "They'll slit your throat for a nickel. Nothin' personal. They just want the extra nickel." A poignant critique of mammoth corporations and all-capable companies, striving only for profit maximization and loss minimization. It is particularly sad when confronted with Mexican immigrants who seek work and a better life in the USA but are only granted the honor of being plucked within the wheel of corporate capitalism.

The Age of Ignorance (2007)

English A comedy about the values crisis of the contemporary West. A lighthearted depiction of an affluent society living in conventions such as a successful career, a loving family, two cars, and the latest electronics - everything that the main character Jean-Marc also possesses. Despite this, he is not happy and in a society full of hidden indifference towards the problems of others, he creates his own enchanting dream world - in which, fittingly, he only thinks about himself. Jean-Marc is thus a typical useless person and part of a society that he gradually sees as twisted. In the end, he escapes civilization to a cabin on a remote coast. While he hides from the surroundings there, he also loses the dreams that kept him afloat before. And even though he finds simple human joys, unfortunately, he ends up practically on the edge of the world.

Alice in the Cities (1974)

English A convenient connection of two worlds, two moments of human life. At the beginning, the main character drives through the USA - an alienated landscape, alone without deeper meaning or fulfillment in life, yet intensified by the surrounding and local (advertising) way of life. This is followed by a journey across The Netherlands and Germany - initially, the forced care for a child gives the main character feelings of satisfaction and a deeper reason for life. It has wonderful poetry, great cinematography and music, and Wim Wenders...

Stalker (1979)

English "Hardness and strength are companions of death, weakness and flexibility are an expression of the freshness of being." The notion of human humility against the belief in one's infallibility, power, and exclusivity - which proves to be fragile and uncertain when it comes to revealing what is truly inside, what this belief is truly based on. A film containing countless stimuli for reflection, from which everyone can take away something different in the end, but will certainly not be the same as when they came to the film at the beginning - just like Stalker, The Writer, and The Professor after visiting the "Zone."

Kings of the Road (1976)

English A film about people seeking escape from disappointments and life crises in solitude while traveling across Germany. Yet just like the fate of German village movie theaters, their way of life is slowly but surely condemned to extinction. Throughout the story, two men become friends and must confront past traumas and new life questions in order to ultimately realize that "escaping from life" is not the solution. For me, the film's great atmosphere, however, hides a danger if the viewer fails to tune into its wavelength, in which case the nearly 3-hour runtime can be tiresome.
