Family: Absence of the Wife, Existence of the Husband (2006) (series)

English An interesting drama set in a family that stops working (or at least the wife thinks so). It's got eight episodes of 45 minutes each (except for the first one); it went by quickly, it had a nice brisk pace, and I didn't even get bored. Ishida Yuriko, Takenouchi Yutaka, and Watari Tetsuya all acted well, sometimes more and sometimes less. Except that the boy didn’t, not at all. I'm sorry, but this child actor was just really bad, and it spoiled the experience of an otherwise pretty solid story. Plus it also lost points for the scenes where I was like "that didn’t 't have to be here" and "please no, I don't want to see that". They were scenes that just brought an unpleasant disruption to an otherwise pretty cool series (despite the subject matter). But still a nice series, if you're in the mood for a family drama that doesn't have a bloated running time and is a bit naive, I definitely recommend it.

Fantastic Four (2005)

English It's been a while since I've seen this. I know Chris Evans is hot and he rides a motorcycle in this. I know that if you're rubbery (Luffyyy :-D) and run out of toilet paper, you can reach into the next room for a new one. I know, McMahon was a better bad guy in Charmed. I know Jessica can disappear, but she has a thing for rubber. I know people can petrify after being hit by cosmic radiation of an unknown nature. A filmed comic that is (presently) at 54%. Do I really need to say more?

Far from Men (2014)

English Just a film full of dust at first glance, but there's great theatre to be played out underneath it, too. A quiet film, full of small gestures, but when you add them all up you get something nice, even if you have to take a dustrag for it. Viggo Mortensen as an older, perhaps you could say broken, man who has been through a lot, and yet the viewer never learns what, it's just gently served up in hints. It's a small film, but it's something to hide in. I don't recommend it if you want a relaxing film, although I believe it's a good one to fall asleep to.

Fast and Furious 4 (2009)

English So what I have to remind you: The home's actual reconstruction; how Letty a.k.a. Criminal Las Vegas ended; I thought Brian spent the whole film pussyfooting around; it was clear he was eventually going to close the deal; damn, why was Han there so little; yes, the ending made me laugh like hell :-D and in general so everything I've superficially listed here left a sad smile on my face... ;-) What a party, beautiful cars! Too bad that the one Brian built blew up – and anyway, all the cars I liked blew up at that moment – it really was a pain in the ass, even the left-hand drive... ^_^ Well, it was a lot of fun. If there's another installment, I'll definitely watch it. I think I'd give it an extra star if I saw it in better quality. Ah well, it’s done. Maybe one day I'll give it a ratings boost. I couldn't stand the sight of a chamber drama and went for exhaust fumes instead XoD

Fatal Intuition (2015)

English Apart from the fact that the film had plenty of tone-deaf moments, I was particularly bothered by its lack of balance and continuity. It starts out as a human drama that switches to a crime thriller, at which point supernatural elements are introduced, all for it to end with a view of the setting sun... It wouldn't have been so bad if the different elements had been well put together, instead of leaving me with the feeling that I'm watching three different movies at once. One of them about sibling love, the other about a psycho murderer, and the third about a misunderstood girl who sees ghosts, but thankfully finds someone who believes her. It's a shame, because I like Joo Won a lot, but it's as if I've never seen him in a single thing that was good as a whole. He's great, but the projects he chooses just kill me. To be honest, even now, shortly after having seen it, I don't really remember much from the movie. Which in my opinion doesn't say much about the quality of the film; for this reason I can't give it more than 2 stars.

Fated to Love You (2014) (series)

English It has its beautiful moments, both funny and sad. You eventually get used to Gun's goofy laugh because you find out exactly what he's hiding with it. A good story I'd already seen 4 years ago in the Taiwanese version – this one is much more focused on emotions; the Taiwanese one more on comic aspects. While it made for pleasant viewing, I wouldn't look for more than a bedtime story. Of the songs, only one sticks in my mind, I don't know if there were more. The main couple were a good match, they had their light and dark moments, but I've seen couples with more sparks flying between them. As I wrote before, it’s a good story to unwind with, which has its painful moments, but that's okay because it's still just a fairy tale. Towards the end, I felt the plot was a bit too watered down and could easily have been cut a bit shorter. Otherwise a very nice 3 stars. Not bad.

Fate/stay night (2006) (series)

English I debated for a long time between 3 and 4 stars, but in the end I give it 4. Because... because... I don't know. I'm kind of thinking that 3 is not enough and 4 is a lot, but since I've discovered Archer's identity, I feel instantly happier and that feeling results in a better rating... Anyway... :-) It was okay, I just didn't enjoy the 1st opening sequence, it was – in my opinion – a bit too tired for such an anime...

Father of the Bride (2011) (TV movie)

English A very enjoyable special melancholically portraying the feelings of a father about to marry off his only daughter. The newlyweds are played by Mukai Osamu and Kanjiya Shihori and they do very well. Nothing is out of place, nothing is missing anywhere. By the time it's over, and it went by pretty quickly for me, you have a very pleasant feeling all over your body, you’re smiling and actually pretty satisfied. If you're looking for something unpretentious, unhurried, human, where it tingles on the string of a shamisen – this is it!

Fathers (2014) (series)

English The first installment of sort of a melancholic and understatedly punchy multi-part tale by Okada Yoshikazu. Tamura Masakazu and Matsu Takako both did a very good job. The second installment felt weaker than the first, but then again it has a story that blends the present with the past in a fast-paced way, and this installment shows how a father's dream can become a daughter's and vice versa. Their dreams became so intertwined that in the end they couldn't wish each other any other happiness. Rating other episodes after watching.

Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)

English Music good, cinematography awkward, equally awkward performance by Jamie Dornan. Dakota was still okay, but nothing great under the sun. The beginning was really a mouthful, I thought I wouldn't be able to finish it, but I endured simply because of masochism. An erotic film that tries to have some psychological overtones, but that gets pretty lost in the superficial beginning and middle (god I was getting hysterical fits of laughter at some of the dialogue and "thrills"). Basically, it only starts to get interesting at the end, when Ana realizes that she's not very happy, she starts to have her doubts about the whole sex trip. Despite all the stupid lines, and a couple of fairly well played verbal exchanges, it wasn't the horrible movie I thought it would be in the end.
