The Umbrella Academy - The Day That Wasn't (2019) (episode)

English Although the plot is slightly above average throughout, I have grown accustomed to it. I silently hoped that the creators would avoid two things that could bother me, but it was in vain, as they used both. In the name of political correctness, testosterone passion was brought up again. I am not a good mathematician, but I would say that one out of six doesn't really correspond to four percent. Well, but that's trendy. The second thing was even worse - Vána's amazing abilities really manifested. It was as unexpected as Jean-Claude Van Damm's victory at the end of each of his movies.

The Umbrella Academy - Number Five (2019) (episode)

English A pretty standard episode which was saved by some action-packed moments. The standout moment for me was the attack with the ice cream truck accompanied by Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries."

The Umbrella Academy - Man on the Moon (2019) (episode)

English This episode didn’t exactly blow me away, but it was a step up from the last one. The local necroscope was a fun touch, and Hazel/Cha-Cha had me laughing. I could’ve done without the final emotional scene, though — it totally missed the mark for me.

The Umbrella Academy - Extra Ordinary (2019) (episode)

English This series is heading in the opposite direction of what I expected after the first episode. The quality keeps dipping, and even this action-packed episode couldn't turn things around. The gang taking out armed guards at the bank only to get beaten up at home felt a bit off. At least they kept the cultural touch — Vanya and her violin might just pull in some classical music fans.

The Umbrella Academy - Run Boy Run (2019) (episode)

English No major improvements over the first episode, and I found myself thinking about the character portrayed by Ellen Page. Vanya's only skill seems to be spreading depression, making her feel like Marvin the robot from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

The Umbrella Academy - We Only See Each Other at Weddings and Funerals (2019) (episode)

English The first episode didn’t blow me away; it felt more like a slow introduction to all the key characters. That said, there were some intriguing moments that make me hopeful for the upcoming episodes. I absolutely loved the cover of "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" by They Might Be Giants.

Dark - Season 1 (2017) (season)

English The first season wasn’t all that impressive but, then again, not a total disappointment either. The first half of the series seemed rather unconvincing, the second half was much more balanced. The writing was much better, and I had a great time as a result. At first, the whole thing strongly reminded me of Stranger Things, later it also made me remember Brian Lumley's “Necroscope” series. The resemblance to the Perchorsk Incident was considerable (minus the vampires). 4*-

Dark - Alpha and Omega (2017) (episode)

English The final episode was a mixed bag for me — half disappointing, half satisfying. I ended up giving it a weak four stars. It felt like the creators got a bit tangled in their own script, and the ending was rushed and a bit unfinished. Despite that, I enjoyed the overall plot and the intriguing open-ended conclusion. I'll definitely be tuning in for the next season. 4*-

Dark - Everything Is Now (2017) (episode)

English This episode didn’t grip me as much as the last one. The confrontation between Katharina and Hannah felt like it dragged the story down. That said, I love seeing how the characters evolve over the 66 (or 33)-year timelines. The episodes towards the end of the season are resonating with me much more than the earlier ones.

Dark - As You Sow, so You Shall Reap (2017) (episode)

English Alright, the creators really blew my mind this time. I was already very satisfied with the episode set in 1986, but I didn't expect this ace up their sleeve. The 66-year time jump was truly successful and the development (or rather destruction) of Ulrich's psyche was excellent.
