Brotherhood (2009)

English I saw the film for the second time after several years and I remembered the plot only vaguely. I was curious to see if it would have the same effect on me as it once did. At first, I didn't quite believe it, but when the first hint of emotional spark between Lars and Jimmy emerged, I was hooked again. It is probably clear to everyone that having a homosexual relationship and being a member of a neo-Nazi group is a guaranteed road to hell. How I cheered for those two and worried about them... In addition, Thure Lindhardt and David Dencik played the lovers so believably that there was an incredible spark between them. Deep down, I wished they had succeeded. Still, I have to appreciate the more or less expected destructive ending, without which the story would be hardly believable.

Un Homme Ideal (2014)

English Several films have already been made about a struggling writer who, due to a chance opportunity, appropriates someone else's manuscript and passes it off as their own. The filmmakers did a commendable job in this thriller, effectively sustaining suspense until the rather unexpected conclusion. Pierre Niney, who played the ambitious young man more than convincingly, is certainly worth mentioning.

ID:A (2011)

English A strong resemblance to Agent Bourne, but in female form. However, both the story and its execution fall somewhat short. In some places, it even slips down to B-movie territory in the more action-packed scenes, which is probably what bothered me the most. Nevertheless, the film does have a fairly decent atmosphere, and a definite win is the performance of the lead actress. It's watchable primarily thanks to Tuva Novotny.

Almost Perfect (2012)

English It's a pretty out-there movie about a woman who wants a child but doesn't have a partner, so she undergoes artificial insemination. However, she starts to wonder about the donor and, in her search, encounters a scoundrel she unexpectedly falls in love with. Nikolaj Lie Kaas convinced me in just ninety minutes that he might have comedy in his blood, the way he brilliantly portrayed the potential father. And until now, I could hardly imagine him as anything other than a brooding and grumpy cop. Lene Maria Christensen in the lead role was also good. They were a bit of a mismatched pair, but opposites attract, and this was doubly true here. I was entertained for almost the entire duration, and that's what I value most in comedies.

Parade (2011)

English The ethnic conflict in the Balkans is likely to be eternal, and mixed into that is the general hostility toward the gay community. Taking these realities and making a film that is both funny and touching at the same time seems almost impossible to me. And behold, the creators of the film Pride succeeded in doing just that. While there are a few clichés present, overall it's an original, mostly humorous spectacle with a bitter ending and a significant human dimension.

Sleep Tight (2011)

English Well, that was quite perverted! Of course, I can't say I was not excited to see how it would all turn out... I was quite a fan of the somewhat peculiar janitor, but as the end approached, my sympathy for him dwindled somewhat. However, I definitely didn't get bored while watching the film, so the 4 stars I’m giving it are well deserved.

A Very English Scandal (2018) (series)

English It never occurred to me in my wildest dreams that Hugh Grant could play a dramatic role so brilliantly the way he did in this miniseries, which was based on true events. I dare say he gave one of the best performances of his career here. His ambitious and at times unbelievably sleazy Liberal Party chairman Jeremy Thorpe literally gives me chills. Ben Whishaw was also great as Grant's counterpart in the role of Norman Scott's effeminate lover. The theme of concealing homosexuality in the British political scene of the 1960s and 1970s is immensely powerful in itself. Although the series revolves around a serious scandal involving the highest echelons of society, everything is served with sharp British humor, which adds much-needed lightness and momentum to the story. The Teach - Season 1 (2016) (season)

English The start was a bit slower, but with each episode, the drama increased and the atmosphere thickened. The positive and negative characters were well cast. The resolution of the story was unexpected and perfectly punctuated. After watching the first series, I have no choice but to applaud the Poles for this excellent detective series.

Cross of Honour (2012)

English A successful war drama about the emergence of a friendship between three Germans and two Englishmen who shoot each other down over the inhospitable Norwegian landscape. Chance brings them together under the same roof of a mountain hut as they seek shelter from a raging snowstorm. Despite the initial national animosity, they eventually become friends, something that the members of the Norwegian army who find them cannot understand. The film was based on true events, and this underscores the power of the message of how absurd wars are.

One Man Up (2001)

English I probably prefer Sorrentino's later work, but his debut is still great. Toni Servillo, now the director's court actor, delivers an impressive performance as the bankrupt musician. It is no wonder that this film was the start of their future collaboration. Although it was more of a drama overall, the few jokes that appeared kept me on my toes and I even laughed a few times. The connection between the visuals and music is also excellent, as is customary with Paolo Sorrentino. (75%)
