The Boat (1981)

English This is one of the few films where the overlong runtime is justified. If it hadn't been for the time I spent with the crew of the German submarine, I would hardly have been able to fully empathize with their plight. As time went on, I felt like I was in the bowels of a submarine with them, and I admit that it made me very uncomfortable more than once. I was even more impressed by the last dramatic minutes of the story, which were filled with absolute despair and doom. (80%)

Eiffel’s Megastructures (2019) (TV movie)

English The French engineer Gustave Eiffel was unknown to me. However, that changed rapidly after watching this compelling documentary. My great thanks go to the authors for the wealth of information and images relating to his person, patents, and the buildings in which he was involved. (90%)

Girl in Progress (2012)

English From my point of view, this is a pretty annoying film for teenagers. The film has such a typically American script that it almost hurts. Surprisingly, however, in the end, the main character and her mother learn a lesson that is quite bearable, unlike the plot before it. (35%)

The Beach Bum (2019)

English The sleazy-looking and acting Matthew McConaughey became dangerously comfortable with the role of the poetic genius Moondog. If there were more comedic situations to amuse oneself with here, I could imagine coming back to this dull film sometime. In this way, I'm left with nothing else but to at least chuckle inwardly at the funny scene from the dolphin-swimming trip with sharks, which made the movie worth seeing. (60%)

Attenborough's Life That Glows (2016) (TV movie)

English An excellent documentary introducing viewers to the fascinating organisms and animals that light up the world. The phenomenon of bioluminescence is not easy to capture on camera, so there are plenty of unique shots here. (100%)

Justice (2011)

English The central idea of the film intrigued me so much that I was completely immersed in the plot, waiting anxiously to see if Nicolas Cage would somehow miraculously get out of the shit he was in. Surprisingly, he actually succeeds and almost everything turns out well. (70%)

Fahim (2019)

English I am amazed at the superficiality of certain people who are affected by even a completely harmless film about a gifted chess player from Bangladesh in their determined efforts to fight against immigrants. Mostly, after they cool their thirst, they often go to Vietnamese people's stores in droves. Just for spite, I'm giving it an extra star.

Pain & Glory (2019)

English Good old Pedro Almodóvar tells a melancholic tale that could be based largely on his personal memories and experiences. That's how believable I find Pain and Glory. The casting of Antonio Banderas in the lead role was also very useful. It is a calmly flowing film with strong emotional moments that will be appreciated especially by those who have experienced something in life. Slowly but surely I am becoming one of them. (85%)

Lakomec (1972) (theatrical recording)

English Miloš Kopecký played the role of Harpagon with bravura, but the vast majority of the cast could barely keep up with him. My final impression was somewhat marred by the absence of spectators in the auditorium. Then there is the unpleasant phenomenon that in places where there would otherwise be laughter or applause, there is only awkward silence. (65%)

Salvo (2013)

English The whole story is permeated by tension that is hard to describe and keeps the viewer on their toes. However, the plot itself doesn't move ahead much and is rather monotonous, so sooner or later it gets a bit boring. Even the ending itself fizzles out, but that doesn't mean it's a bad film. I was just secretly hoping for a more impactful denouement. (65%)
