Biography

Mihail Mutafov was born in 1947 in Harmanli. He holds a degree in Acting from National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts. In 1972 to 1975 he worked at Dimitrovgrad Drama Theatre and since 1975 he worked at Stoyan Bachvarov Drama Theatre in Varna.

He has played over 100 roles in theatre, cinema and TV. Some of his most successful theatrical transformations are as Comte de Sade in Peter Weiss's Marat/Sade; Investigator Tupolski in Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman; Krapp in Samuel Beckett's Last Tape; Edward and Richard in Harold Pinter's A Slight Ache and The Lover; the Governor in Gogol's The Inspector-General; The long in Dario Fo's Archangels Don't Play Pinball; the Indian in Dale Wassermann's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, etc. In the cinema Mihail Mutafov plays roles in the films Cyclops, Against the Wind, With Children at the Seaside, The Well, etc.

He has been a guest actor on the stages in Berlin, Moscow, the Netherlands, Belgium, Macedonia etc. He has been awarded the respected Askeer award two times for a leading role and a supporting role; two awards for a leading role at Vratsa Small Forms Festival, etc.
