Biography

Vaclav Kadrnka was born on September 10, 1973 in Zlín, Czechoslovakia. In 1988, he emigrated with his mother to United Kingdom to join his father, who had defected to the West because of the Communist regime. He returned to Czechoslovakia in 1992. He worked as an assistant director to Vojtěch Jasný. From 1999 till 2008 he studied feature film directing at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague. His student films have been presented at many international film festivals (Mar del Plata, Munich, New York, Karlovy Vary, Berlin, etc.) and won awards both at home and abroad. Since 2008 he has worked freelance in films as director, scriptwriter and producer. Eighty Letters is his feature debut.
