Biography

Philippe Garrel, direct descendant of the Nouvelle Vague, Robert Bresson and Jean Eustache, debuted as a director in 1967 with Marie pour mémoire, going on to turn out more than twenty-five films, particularly including titles such as Le révélateur (1968), La cicatrice intérieure (1972), Les hautes solitudes (1974), L’enfant secret (1979), Les baisers de secours (1988), Les amants réguliers (2004), winner of the Silver Lion in Venice, La frontière de l’aube (2008) and L’amant d’un jour (Lover for a Day, 2017), the latter two shown in Zabaltegi-Tabakalera. San Sebastian Festival dedicated a retrospective to his complete work in 2007. La sel des larmes competed at Berlin Festival.
