Biography

After studying Philosophy and Linguistics in Paris, Rahmatou KEÏTA (1957, Niger) started a career as a journalist in France. She directed several short films and created a documentary series entitled Femmes d'Afrique (1993-1997), screened on TV around Africa. In 2005, her first feature film, Al'lèèssi... An African Actress (2003), was selected for the film festival of Cannes and received several awards, such as the Best Documentary Award at Montreal, FIFAI and the Sojourner Truth Award in Cannes. Keïta is also a founding member of the Pan-African Association for Culture (ASPAC).
