Biography

Filmmaker and screenwriter Maria Bäck works both in Sweden and Denmark. In 2013 she graduated as a director from Den Danske Filmskole. With her graduation film Mother is God, she won the Nordic Talents 2013. The same film has also been nominated for and won several awards at international festivals. The film revolves around conversations between Bäck and her mother, who has lived with a mental illness since Bäck's childhood. Trained in poetry, dance and photography, she has directed art documentaries and television programmes for Danish television. Her first feature film, I Remember When I Die, premiered at CPH:DOX 2015. The film received an honourable mention for the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Documentary at the Gothenburg Film Festival 2016.
