Biography

Daniele Gaglianone (b. 1966, Ancona, Italy) studied modern literature and film history and criticism at Turin university. He began as a filmmaker in 1991, working with the National Cinema Archive of Resistance in Turin and in 1996 he was involved in the eleven-part video programme "Le stagioni della Resistenza". He began with short documentaries (e.g. Era meglio morirre da piccoli, 1992; L'orecchio ferito del piccolo comandante, 1994; Cichero, 1995; Il vento fra le mani - la violenza nemica, 1995; Luoghi inagibili in attesa di ristrutturazione capital, 1996). As assistant director and co-writer, he shared in the film The Way We Laughed (Cosí riverdano, 1998, dir. Gianni Amelio), which won the Golden Lion at Venice. Two years later he wrote and directed the black-and-white docudrama Our Years (I nostri anni, 2000), which won the CinemAvvenire Award for Best First Feature at the Torino International Festival of Young Cinema and was screened at the Cannes IFF in the Director's Fortnight section.
