María Rojo

She has been a film, theater and TV actress since she was 8 years old, when she participated in the premiere of the TV Series “Teatro Fantástico”. She has also followed a political career in the Partido de la Revolución Democrática. She has worked in a number of films including El Apando (1975), directed by Felipe Cazals and inspired by the works of author José Revueltas; La Tarea (1990), directed by Jaime Humberto Hermosillo; Rojo Amanecer (1989), directed by Jorge Fons; Danzón (1991), directed by María Novaro; El Callejón de los Milagros, also directed by Jorge Fons, and Perfume de Violetas, directed by Marisa Systach, among many others. She has worked for television in the series Ellas, El Amor de Mi Vida and Mariana de la Noche. In 2008 she performed in episode 8 of the series Mujeres Asesinas produced by Pedro Torres. She has been federal legislator (1997-2000). During her term she promoted laws favoring Mexico’s cinema; she was also local legislator before Mexico House of Representatives during the 2003-2006 term. Since 2006 she is Senator and President of the Senate’s Culture Commission. She is Secretary of Social Security for the National Actors Association. She was Coyoacán’s Delegation Representative from 2000 to 2003.
