Biography

Ivan Kravchyshyn (b. 1964, Snyatyn, Ukraine) left school in 1986 and applied to study decorative and interior design at the Institute of Fine Art in Lvov but, a year later, he transferred to the Faculty of Film and Television Direction at the Institute of Dramatic Arts in Kiev, where he graduated in 1991. He has made a number of documentary films such as The Life Tax (Podatok na zhytia , 2002), Whose Ukraine Is This? (Chyia Ukrajina?, 2003) and the series of TV documentaries Restricted Area (Zakryta zona, 2003 – 2004) – the part entitled DUSya. State Management Office (Derzhavne Upravlinnya Spravamy DUSya.) was screened as part of the official selection at the Prix Europa in Berlin in 2004. That year he also won the national Teletriumph Award as Best Director.
