Juan Mora Catlett

Biography

Juan Mora Catlett is a Mexican film director, editor, and screenwriter. Son of artist Elizabeth Catlett and Francisco Mora Pérez, in 1967 he entered the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos (CUEC), where he made his first short film. He filmed scenes of the 1968 student movement in Mexico, such as the Silence March. That same year he began his studies at the Faculty of Film and Television at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, former Czechoslovakia, where he also studied for a Master's Degree in Film and Television. Since 1975 he has been a professor at the CUEC and later at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica; in both institutions he has taught many notable Mexican film directors. He has worked in fiction and formats such as short films (25) and documentaries. In television he was director, screenwriter, and editor of Televisa's series La Hora Marcada. He has directed and produced more than 70 documentaries for institutions such as the Secretaría de Educación Pública, the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes de México and the Detroit Council of Arts.
