When he helmed the highly successful police drama Training Day, it cemented Fuqua's place as a talented director of films that resonate thematically and personally with audiences around the world. The film also garnered Denzel Washington the Academy Award for Best Actor while co-star Ethan Hawke was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Since then Fuqua's diverse body of work has included Brooklyn's Finest, with Richard Gere and Don Cheadle; Shooter, starring Mark Wahlberg; Tears of the Sun, with Bruce Willis; King Arthur, starring Clive Owen and Keira Knightley; and the blues documentary Lightning in a Bottle, produced by Martin Scorsese. Fuqua is also one of the industry's most sought-after music-video and commercial directors. He has directed videos for Prince, Usher, Stevie Wonder and Toni Braxton, among others. For his work on Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise," Fuqua won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Rap Video. He recently directed the "Mirror" video for Lil' Wayne and Bruno Mars, which has garnered more than 150 million views since its release and was nominated for MVPA awards for Best Direction of a Male Artist, Best Hip Hop Video and Best Cinematography. Fuqua's commercial clients include Fiat, Pirelli, Armani, Reebok, Nike (Jordan Brand) and GMC.

Growing up in a tough neighborhood of Pittsburgh inspired not only Fuqua's vision as a director, but also his passionate support for underprivileged youth and the community. Fuqua produced, financed and set up a distribution deal with HBO for "Bastards of the Party," an award-winning documentary about the evolution of gangbanging, written and directed by a former gang member.
